This Coral Reef Dolphin Stained Glass Door Clearwater Beach Florida was commissioned by a client of KATGLASS: The Stained Glass Studio for a residential stained glass door installation. Is there anything more alluring than dolphins jumping and playing in the sea? This custom stained glass front door is designed to blend together with a bathroom stained glass window on the front face of this beautiful Clearwater Beach residence. The design was especially challenging bringing the passion of our client’s underwater scuba diving together with their love of natural beauty of Tampa bay. This panel has important elements strategically picked to be painted and fused by Carlos Velasco.
The coral reef scene combines traditional leaded stained glass with hand painted accents to create life like images of the actual french angel fish, pork fish, queen angels, cuttle fish, sponges, dolphin, and seagulls. Brain coral is realistically represented with heavily textured glasses, adding not only tropical color but texture to the underwater scene as well. The clients, who are avid scuba divers, provided us with their own underwater photos taken on their dives. They chose some of their favorite fish and we were able to incorporate them into a custom drawing to use as their front door design. The fact that our studio can provide painted glass techniques puts us a step above the rest. Paints are applied by hand with tiny brushes or airbrushed onto the glass, then carefully cleaned before being fired in kiln to make them an everlasting part of the glass design. This allows us to create the tiniest of details: fish scales, shading of the sun’s rays shining through the water, even the silhouette of birds flying in the distance.
