KATGLASS teaches glass fusing classes on a private basis at a rate of $75+ per hour. This class fee includes one on one instruction tailored to your specific needs and skill level, table time and tools, and use of the studio’s kilns to fuse your projects. (Supplies are not included because we do not want to dictate what you make and which glasses you use, and class cost depends on what is being taught and which kilns we will be firing in).
As a beginner we will take you through the types of glass available to fuse with and what makes them compatible. We’ll teach you how to write a program to slump a single layer into the mold of your choice, prepare the molds, and what to look for in a finished product. Next you will learn how to fuse two layers together-helping you to think through and plan your project, what pitfalls to avoid in fusing larger surface areas together, how to decide how long and how high you should fuse your project, how to prepare kiln shelves for flat fusing, how adding inclusions to your project can effect the outcome and timing, and how to log your projects for future fusings. We also cover fusing three full layers together creating a tile which we will teach you to cut apart on a ring saw to then fire polish and use for jewelry cabachons, pendants and earring pieces.
If you wish to learn about a specific item such as drop ring vases, vessels, raking, pot melts or other specialized fusing processes, please call us to discuss the details! We can teach on a one on one basis, or if you have a group interested in learning to fuse we will gladly arrange a class time to meet your groups schedule.
We also offer a one hour fused dichroic pendant class which makes for a great girl’s day or night out, birthday parties, team building exercise or date night activity! Classes are held three times per week and last about an hour. You will get a quick overview of what we do here at KATGLASS, and how glass fusing works, then we will set you free with boxes of fusible glass to design your own pendant. We will do all the work for you (fusing your piece, gluing the bail on and stringing it making it ready to wear!), and you can pick up your finished masterpiece about a week later.
